I am configuring an old iMac to use as a standalone, off network, music workstation with an old version of GarageBand. I hope this question is not out of the scope of this sub. In other words, will putting a 10.6.8 machine on my network make the network vulnerable if I am only connecting to Apple update servers? My assumption is that any Apple server updates would be encrypted, but can a deprecated OS vulnerability break that security in some way and set up my networks or that machine for attacks? Obviously, a wired ethernet connection would be more secure than wireless, but would even a wired connection be vulnerable?
TLDR In building an initial set up, using a deprecated Mac OS (10.6.8), is it OK to allow a Mac to connect to Apple Servers for updates?
